Best patios in Gastown

Continuing with over coverage of the best patios around Vancouver, it’s time to visit the lovely neighbourhood of Gastown. Here are the best patios in Gastown.

Gastown is a hub for nightlife here in Vancouver, with some of the city’s best bars, nightclubs and new venues cropping up on a monthly basis. But, let’s face it, one thing Gastown seems to be lacking is patio space. And while the sun is shining, patio space is priority number one. So, we’ve done all the heavily lifting for you to find all the hidden gems and best patios Gastown has to offer.

Chill Winston

Chill Winston has the ultimate patio in Gastown. The patio feels like it is bigger than the inside restaurant and is perfectly situated right across from Gassy Jack. This is the go-to patio for anyone trying to soak up some sun for lunch, dinner or pre-party.

Address: 3 Alexander Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-288-9575

Steamworks has been in Vancouver forever, and it still holds up. The brewpub has a patio that functions all year round and serves up a selection of specialty made beers brewed onsite.

Address: 375 Water Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-689-2739

The Lamplighter

Yes, The Lamplighter is one of many Donnelly Group restaurants around the city, but there is a reason there are so many of them; because it works. The Lamplighter has a massive all-day patio party yearly, usually in late summer, which can get pretty messy.

Address: 92 Water Street, Vancouver

The Charles Bar

The Charles Bar was quick to move into the new Woodward’s building and picked a perfect location. With a sun drenched patio during the afternoon and early evening, Charles Bar offers some great food and drink options and if you want to move inside to watch the game, many booths have their own personal TV’s.

Address: 136 West Cordova Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-568-8040

The Cambie

Ah, The Cambie; all of us claim to be above this famous dive bar, but in reality we’ve all been there one time or another. A popular spot for student tourists thanks to the attached hostel, this patio serves dirt cheap beer and a eclectic social scene.

Address: 300 Cambie Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-688-9158

The Ascot

Moving from dive bars to something a little more sophisticated, The Ascot has a back patio that feels like it’s hidden from the rest of Vancouver. They also serve fantastic lunches and soups.

Address: 420 West Pender Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-566-9599

The Keefer

The Keefer is technically in Chinatown, but we had to include it on this list. A small front patio with a open fireplace during colder nights provides a cosy atmosphere to enjoy with a wide selection of carefully crafted cocktails. The Keefer is by far one of the most unique bars in Vancouver with a Blade Runner meets Chinese Apothecary feel.

Address: 135 Keefer Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-688-1961

Not too long ago Boneta made a big move from their corner location to a more secluded spot in Gastown. This has proven very successful for them and allowed them to create a patio space that is perfectly hidden.

Address: 12 Water Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-684-1844

Bitter believes the patio experience should be a communal one; with only long tables, groups of all types have to share the space and inevitably the conversations. Bitter also has the distinction of having one of the best beer menus in Vancouver.

Address: 16 West Hastings Street, Vancouver
Phone: 604-558-4658
