There’s no shortage of choice when it comes to indoor climbing gyms around Metro Vancouver, and with facilities that cater to all ages and abilities, anyone can try out the sport.

So, from Squamish to Surrey, Vancouver to Abbotsford, here are the 12 best climbing gyms to check out in and around  Metro Vancouver.

Ground Up Climbing Centre

  • What: With 8,000 square feet of space and 40 foot high routes as just some of the attractions, The Ground Up Climbing Centre in Squamish has everything you need to get vertical.
  • Where: 1201 Commercial Way – Squamish BC
  • Hours: Mondays and Tuesdays: 12 pm to 11 pm, Wednesdays to Fridays: 6 am to 11 pm, Saturdays: 10 am to 10 pm, Sundays: 10 am to 9 pm

Edge Climbing Centre

  • What: Describing itself as Canada’s “most comprehensive” climbing gym, the Edge Climbing Centre offers more than 15,000 sure feet of climbing surface.
  • Where: 1485 Welch Street – North Vancouver

Cliff Hanger Climbing Gym

  • What: A huge space for climbers of all abilities, centrally located in Vancouver, not far from the Main Street-Science World Skytrain station.
  • Where: 670 Industrial Avenue – Vancouver
  • Hours: The gym is open seven days a week. Specific operating times are available on the gym’s website.

The Hive Bouldering Gym

  • What: A spacious bouldering facility, located conveniently close to the Cliffhanger.
  • Where: 520 Industrial Avenue – Vancouver
  • Hours: Open Monday to Friday, from 10 am – 11 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am – 11 pm. New extended trail hours will begin on February 1. Check the website for full updates.

Hyde Creek Recreation Centre

  • What: While more of a full recreational facility rather than just a climbing gym, the Hydre Creek Recreation Centre does offer a climbing wall for those who want to try the sport.

Rock Wall Climbing Gym

  • What: A family-run climbing gym with a nice local feel, the Rock Wall climbing gym in Maple Ridge is suitable for all ages and abilities.

  • What: One of the bigger gyms in Metro Vancouver, and the largest in the Fraser Valley, Project Climbing Centre Abbotsford boasts more than 9,000 square feet of climbing space.
  • Where: 34100 South Fraser Way – Abbotsford
  • Hours: 3 pm to 10 pm Monday to Friday, 12 pm to 9 pm Saturday, and noon to 8 pm on Sundays.
