Best Chinese Restaurants in Vancouver 2013

Dec 19 2017, 2:51 pm

Bringing Metro Vancouver’s Chinese food lovers together with one dining guide, the 5th annual Chinese Restaurant Awards has announced the winners of 2013 Diners’ Choice Awards. This year, 34,273 votes were cast over a period of eight weeks with an average increase of 34%—the largest turnout in the history of Diners’ Choice Awards. No doubt these are the best Chinese restaurants in Vancouver for 2013.

Celebrating Metro Vancouver’s Chinese culinary landscape, the Awards embraces local food enthusiasts’ growing knowledge and understanding of Chinese cuisine. The extended eight-week voting period in 2013 was implemented to encourage diners to further explore the city’s food scene by nominating and voting for their favourite restaurants. As a result, five new dishes were added to the categories to reflect the public’s interest in finding the restaurant that excels in making a signature dish.

In Best Taiwanese Beef Noodle, diners selected Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle as the winner. The legendary beef noodle house made its debut in Metro Vancouver after fourteen years of operation in Taiwan and winning three championships in the Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival. It was also a winner for one of the 2012 Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards.

Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant has been recognized as the outstanding winner of Best B.C Dungeness Crab Dish. Its varied and original approach to preparing crab is loved by many. Top Shanghai Cuisine Restaurant wins the Best Pan-fried Shanghinese Bun for its commitment to authenticity in making this iconic regional delicacy. For the remaining two new categories, Ho Yuen Kee Restaurant takes home the title of Best Stir-fried Prawns with Eggs and Mui Garden wins the title of Best Salt-and-Pepper Pork Lion. Both dishes seem easy to prepare but are Cantonese classics that showcase a chef’s deft and skill.

The remaining thirteen categories continue to show the depth of the Chinese culinary community. Highlights include Richmond’s BBQ Master, which has won the award of Best BBQ Shop for five consecutive years. Their roasted BBQ Cha Siu and BBQ Pork Belly sell out regularly and attract discerning shoppers from all over Metro Vancouver. Deer Garden Signatures reigns supreme in the Best Hong-Kong Style Café category with its famous rice noodle in fish soup, the kind of comfort food that warms your heart on a rainy day. Crystal Mall’s Xiang Yuan Qiao Bridge Rice Noodle, is a first time winner for Best Food Court Stall, offers a wide selection of Yunnan-style noodle soup dishes at unbeatable prices, a true hidden gem in Burnaby.

All of the 2013 Diners’ Choice Awards winners will be invited to attend the awards ceremony on February 26, 2013 in the Show Theatre at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond.
