'Hey! Listen!': Best Buy opening late in Metro Vancouver for new 'Zelda' with swag giveaway

Best Buy has announced that it’s going to be opening a couple of Metro Vancouver locations late for the latest entry in the popular Zelda franchise from Nintendo, which is actually a remake of an older entry.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a remake of the 1998 N64 classic of the same name, releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5.

To mark the occasion, two Best Buy Canada locations, the Lansdowne Centre location in Richmond and the Coquitlam Centre location, will open at 10 p.m. PCT on Nov. 4.

You’ll want to show up early if you’re attending, as lineups will start ahead of time.

Nintendo’s original is regarded by many as one of the greatest video games ever made, so the hype for the remake is very high.

As a bonus, there will be a poster giveaway for the first 100 guests in line.

Fans are being encouraged to dress as their favourite character, and anyone dressed in a costume will have a chance to win a $100 Best Buy gift card. Other “visual opportunities” include a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time photo experience and hot chocolate and snacks while supplies last.

Best Buy also says that there will be limited-edition Zelda gear available on launch night at the two Metro Vancouver locations.

Select stores will also be carrying a limited number of Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, and Zelda anniversary editions of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

“Few franchises carry the generational pull of The Legend of Zelda. Expect launch night celebrations to draw more than core gamers, including longtime fans who grew up with the series and want to be part of its next chapter,” a Best Buy spokesperson said in a release.

While Ocarina of Time was and is a hugely popular game, it’ll be interesting to see the changes that come to it. One of the biggest annoyances of the original was your sidekick Navi constantly saying things like, “Hey! Listen!”

November will be a massive month for video games in general, as it also brings the launch of perhaps the most anticipated video game of all time, Grand Theft Auto VI.
