During the winter months, many of Vancouver’s food trucks close for the season. This normally leads to a lot of extra ingredients leftover. One food truck, Beljam’s Waffles, has decided to serve up a delicious waffle breakfast for the students at Strathcona Elementary School (592 East Pender Street) on Thursday, November 14, 2013, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.

“We have been blessed with a successful first year of operation, and truly wanted to give back, especially during the holiday season,” explains Nathen Shandler, owner of Beljam’s Waffles food truck. “My wife Sophena did a practicum at Strathcona, and we knew we wanted to participate in their Breakfast Program. Breakfast is an important meal for everyone, especially kids. It’s our hope that other food trucks will follow in our footsteps.”

About 200 students are expected to enjoy breakfast on the morning of November 14. Beljam’s is making their signature strawberries and whipped cream waffle, roasted apples and whipped cream waffle, and a few savoury selections.

“Since 1998, Breakfast at Strathcona not only feeds hungry bellies but provides the students of Lord Strathcona Elementary School with a healthy nutritious start to their day,” says Margaret Jorgensen, Principal at Strathcona Elementary School and Ron Suzuki, Community Recreation Programmer. “What a wonderful treat for the children to receive breakfast from Beljam’s Waffles on Thursday the 14th. This generous  donation will definitely enhance the high quality we maintain by giving our children the best when it comes to healthy food.”

“Providing breakfast every day helps ensure our students are attending school well-nourished and ready to learn and fosters a happy and healthy school environment,” adds Jorgensen.

Beljam’s Waffles will be back in operation in spring 2014. For more information about Beljam’s, please visit www.beljams.com.
