A bear was on the loose in a residential area of Metro Vancouver late Thursday afternoon and was spotted in a yard in New West.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, including the bear. The bear was initially spotted in the Sapperton area of New Westminster.

Both the City of New Westminster and the New Westminster Police Department shared warnings about the bear on social media.

Daily Hive obtained permission from a local resident to share several photos of the bear.

New West Police Department officers were keeping tabs on the bear to ensure the public’s safety. The department warned the public not to get close to the bear, adding that B.C. conservation officers were en route.

The City of New Westminster said the bear was spotted on the 300-block of Cedar Street.

The photos Daily Hive obtained had the bear spotted at Glover Avenue near 2nd Street.

After a small demand of folks asking New West Police for an update, the department said this on X:

Clearly, the bear was just enjoying some nice weather before going off on its bear-y way.
