An American publication recently put out a list of the best places to visit in Canada, and six B.C. spots made the list.

The six B.C. areas were highlighted by U.S. News & World Report.

B.C. missed out on the top five, but the first spots in the province to make the list were a combination of two areas, Victoria and Vancouver Island, tied at #8.

“While Montréal and Québec City highlight Canada’s French roots, Victoria represents the country’s British past. Many pay a visit to Victoria, British Columbia’s capital city, for afternoon tea, a tour of the imposing Parliament Buildings or a history lesson at the Royal BC Museum,” U.S. News said.

Vancouver Island’s wineries and cider spots were also celebrated by the publication, as well as the island’s marine wildlife.

Ranking at #9 was Vancouver, which was praised for its outdoor experiences.

“Vancouverites spend their days skiing on Grouse Mountain, swimming at Kitsilano Beach and strolling through sprawling Stanley Park. Those who aren’t afraid of heights can also walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which dangles 230 feet above the Capilano River,” U.S. News said.

The other three spots on the list are the Okanagan Valley, Whistler, and Kelowna.

The Okanagan Valley’s world-class wineries and outdoor activities earned the list’s 11th spot.

“If you are looking to combine wine tasting with outdoor pursuits, visit the Naramata Bench, which is packed with wineries and offers everything from paddleboarding to mountain biking.”

Whistler (#14) was commended for the access to winter sports activities, as well as guests being able to experience downtime in the Whistler Village.

Kelowna (#20) was referred to as a resort area with plenty to offer in the summer.

“Summer draws families to Okanagan Lake while winter attracts travellers to nearby ski resorts. Due to Kelowna’s location in the Okanagan Valley, visitors will be treated to a vibrant food and wine scene. In fact, there are more than 40 wineries within a 20-minute drive of Kelowna.” U.S. News added.
