It was indeed a dark and stormy night, as a powerful Pacific storm whipped through the Lower Mainland Tuesday night, causing havoc across Metro Vancouver from power outages to fallen trees.
The region was under a wind warning Tuesday, and rightly so: Strong gusts felled trees and downed power lines. An estimated 80,000 customers lost power last night, and BC Hydro continues to work on restoring service to the tens of thousands of those who remain in the dark Wednesday morning. Over 32,000 customers are reportedly out of power in the Lower Mainland/Sunshine Coast region, according to BC Hydro.
The @ScanBC Twitter account is full of reports of trees and power lines down and emergency crews dispatched in Surrey, White Rock, Burnaby, Delta, New Westminster, and Vancouver. The hashtag #BCStorm reveals both storm night humour and a lot of blurry photos of fallen trees.
The storms are expected to continue later today and into the weekend, according to Environment Canada.
