B.C. stat holidays: What days off remain after the upcoming Good Friday?

Mar 17 2026, 5:25 pm

The next B.C. stat holiday is approaching quickly and comes as part of the easter weekend in just a couple of weeks, but what remaining statutory holidays do we have after that?

First, the next holiday is Good Friday.

This year, Good Friday falls on Friday, April 3, just two weeks away from the time of this publication, which will make a nice extended long weekend for most working B.C. residents and students.

B.C. has 11 official stat holidays under the Employment Standards Act, and the ones that have already come and gone so far include New Year’s Day, which was obviously Jan. 1, and Family Day, which fell on Monday, Feb. 16.

After Good Friday, B.C. residents will be waiting over a month until the next stat holiday, which is Victoria Day on Monday, May 18.

Sadly, June offers no mandatory days off in B.C., and the next holiday after Victoria Day is Canada Day, which lands on Wednesday, July 1 this year.

After that, we get B.C. day on Monday, Aug. 3, allowing for another long weekend.

In September, most B.C. residents will actually benefit from two statutory holidays, including Labour Day on Monday, Sept. 7, and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which falls on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Thanksgiving offers another long weekend, falling on Monday, Oct. 12 this year. Meanwhile, Remembrance Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

That just leaves one final stat holiday in B.C., which is, of course, Christmas Day, which will be another long weekend, as it falls on Friday, Dec. 25.

If you could add a stat holiday in June, what would you make it?
