Two B.C. towns named as having best downtowns in the Rockies

There are plenty of charming downtowns to visit across B.C., and two spots have just been named among the best in the entire Rockies.

World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released its list of the 11 best downtowns in the Rockies, and two B.C. spots made the cut.

The Rockies comprise 100 separate ranges, divided into four broad categories: the Canadian Rockies, the Northern Rockies, the Middle Rockies, and the Southern Rockies. They are spread out across British Columbia and Alberta, all the way down to New Mexico, U.S.

First up on the list was Golden, which is home to Canada’s highest suspension bridge and is surrounded by six national parks: Banff, Glacier, Jasper, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke, and Yoho.

Golden has a booming craft beer and food scene, including Whitetooth Brewing Company, which got a thumbs up from World Atlas. Whitetooth is a Belgian-inspired small-batch craft brewery that features a tasting room and patio.

The town was also recently named one of the most beautiful places in Canada by New York-based travel magazine Travel + Leisure.

The second downtown core in the B.C. Rockies to make the list was none other than Kimberley, a town that World Atlas highlighted for its Bavarian influences.

“This influence is seen in the Platzl, Kimberley’s European-style, pedestrian-only outdoor mall, which features buildings with mock-chalet facades — further contributing to the Bavarian atmosphere,” wrote World Atlas.

Guests will also want to visit the Happy Hans Cuckoo Clock in the Platzl and the Kimberley Heritage Museum to see over 20,000 artifacts and photographs.
