B.C. residents can earn big cash prizes just by returning empty drink containers (CONTEST)

Recycling is an important part of Canada’s sustainable future — but B.C. recyclers now have even more reasons to keep returning their beverage containers this year, with the “Return-It  to Win-It” contest.

Powered by Return-It — a federally incorporated, not-for-profit product stewardship organization — the program makes it easy and convenient for people to recycle their beverage containers. In addition to their usual deposit refunds, participants now have the chance to win bonus cash prizes and exclusive rewards — including a $10,000 grand prize.

The contest officially launched on Sep. 15, giving B.C. residents the chance to turn their beverage recycling habits into rewards.

The best part? If you’re recycling your empties, you’re probably already starting to earn some entry points.

Return-It

If you’ve never used Return-It to recycle and get your deposit refund, getting the most out of your empty beverage containers couldn’t be simpler — especially with Return-It Express.

Just bring your unsorted containers in sealed, clear, or transparent bags up to 90-litres in capacity to an Express site. Once you’re there, log in using the phone number you registered with at an Express Kiosk, tag your bag, and Return-It will sort the rest out for you.

The deposit refunds will be credited to your Express Account within 10 business days, which can be redeemed either by cheque or Interac e-Transfer.

Now that the Return-It to Win-It contest is live, every beverage container you return through Express earns you three points. Each Express bag you return also comes with a scratch ticket for bonus points — so every trip gives you a new chance to win.

Once you’ve accumulated enough points, you can redeem them for entry into the sweepstakes for cash prizes, or collect one of eight exclusive plush toy puppets.

For the sweepstakes, there will be monthly draws of $1,000, with one grand-prize draw of $10,000 at the end of the contest. Returners may split their points to redeem both plush toys and sweepstakes entries.
