BC Premier David Eby took the stage at the Invictus Games this past weekend, and some words he offered during a speech are being well-received by most of the general public.
We’ve seen lots of tension between the province and the US over the past few weeks as the threat of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada loom.
Eby took some time during his Invictus Games speech to attempt to bring people together, and based on how people are reacting, it sounds like he struck a chord.

“Behind me, we’ve got our friends from the United States who are here today,” Eby said at one point during his speech. He then shifted his attention to the tension between Canada and the US.
“I know our countries are having a moment,” the premier continued before reflecting on the historic ties between the two nations.
“There is not a person here, there is not a Canadian, that does not know that our soldiers have fought and died and cried and celebrated beside Americans for generations.”
The crowd erupted in applause in response.

Eby even said that “as a politician,” it doesn’t matter what politicians say because, ultimately, both countries would have each others’ backs.
In response, folks have been sharing their praise for the speech online.
“That was well done, premier,” one user said.
Another X user said they were proud of the premier for his words.

Before this speech, Eby had been staunchly defending the province against the threat of Trump tariffs, which have been delayed for now. However, at one point, Eby was ready to pull US liquor from BC liquor store shelves.
He has also been encouraging BC residents to buy local and Canadian products.
What did you make of the speech from the BC premier in light of all the tension between the two nations?
