Two beautiful B.C. spots were named on a list of the prettiest places in Canada.

The listing comes from Lonely Planet, which covers the world’s “most extraordinary places and experiences.”

One of the spots is located on Vancouver Island, while the other is near the B.C.–Alberta border.

The first B.C. spot on the list, ranked ninth out of 15 places, is Haida Gwaii. Lonely Planet calls the archipelago of 150 islands one of the best places to appreciate Haida culture.

“The Haida Heritage Centre at Ḵay’ Llnagaay is a good place to start exploring this heritage. Haida Style Expeditions offers day trips to village sites protected by the Haida Gwaii Watchmen in Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve.” Lonely Planet says.

Haida Gwaii offers visitors many outdoor activity options, including scenic hiking tours.

Lonely Planet disclaims that you should plan ahead to get around, as rental cars are limited.

Golden is ranked 10th on Lonely Planet’s list, just west of the B.C.–Alberta border.

Lonely Planet says Golden is best for “quirky heritage.”

“In the region where sport mountaineering in Canada began, a railway once built a mini-Swiss village for its mountaineering guides.”

“More than a century later, Edelweiss Village+Resort has restored the six eclectic chalets. Consider laidback Golden: a springboard to explore the Kicking Horse Grizzly Bear Refuge, Golden Skybridge and four national parks (Yoho, Kootenay, Glacier and Mount Revelstoke).”

For Golden visitors who may be coming back from Alberta, Lonely Planet also recommends heading to the nearby Banff, which is on the way between a “three-hour drive from Calgary to Golden.”

Golden is an excellent spot for hiking, mountain biking, and ocean activities like rafting and kayaking.

If you’ve given up on U.S. travel for now, as many others have, these might make some great summer destinations.

Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland and Labrador was named the prettiest place in Canada.

Are there any other local spots you’d put on a list of the prettiest places in Canada?
