Grey Cup at BC Place Might Be Cancelled

Dec 19 2017, 1:10 pm

In a weird turn of events, a rep from PavCo has said that if the BCGEU (workers at BC Place) & PavCo don’t reach a new deal by Friday at 3:30PM they may have to move forward with a plan to cancel the remaining Whitecaps game, the two BC Lions regular season games, and the Grey Cup.

On Tuesday, the union that represents service and operations staff at BC Place issued a 72-hour strike notice that is set to expire on Friday afternoon. PavCo has said they will not be able to operate the stadium without the workers and are not going to move forward with “scab” workers.

The union says they do not want to “walk out” on Friday, but if no deal is in place they have no other option. The Vancouver Whitecaps FC have a a home game this Saturday and as we all know the BC Lions are on a late season tear into the post-season and are looking like they will be in the Grey Cup when it takes place aat BC Place on November 27th.

The two sides have been in talks over the last month with a provincial mediator even joining the negotiations. Talks broke down earlier this week and no more meetings are set between the two sides.

Looks like the leaky roof is not the only issue the newly renovated stadium has to worry about.
