BC non-profit partners with Calgary sock company to help small businesses

Canadians can help support small businesses in style.

This Bag Helps, a BC non-profit that was created at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic with the purpose of helping small businesses make it through the tough times, has partnered with Calgary’s own Friday Sock Co. to keep working towards that goal.

Originally only offering bags touting the company’s promise “This Bag Helped A Small Business,” This bag has since expanded to offer shirts with a similar message.

Now that Friday Sock Company is on board, the partnership has created some stylish new socks to complete the look.

The company uses all proceeds from the sale of This Bag/Shirt/Sock Helps merchandise to fund grants that are then given out to hand-chosen businesses in need.

The grants have so far helped businesses including Vancouver restaurant Balila, which started a program to donate meals to health workers; Toronto’s Sitti Soap, which employs refugee workers; and furniture resource bank, HomeStart Foundation, which furnishes the homes of over 40 families a month.

The newly offered socks are made from 85% Egyptian combed cotton, 12% nylon, and 3% spandex, and are available on the site for $16 a pair.

Shirts are available for $38 and bags for $28.

Other causes supported by This Bag include feeding a child, giving clean water, helping the bees, and educating a girl.
