The B.C. Medical Association is now accepting nominations for the 14th Annual Health Promotion Awards. These awards honour individuals and organizations who show exceptional leadership and innovation in improving the health and safety of British Columbians. Through recognizing health promotion efforts, the BCMA aims to encourage more groups and individuals to find creative and inspiring ways to make our province a healthier and safer place to live.
Winners receive a sculptured glass award, an invitation to the awards banquet that follows the BCMA annual general meeting (held at the Vancouver Convention Centre), and an announcement in their local newspaper.
Nomination criteria
Awards are presented to individuals, non-profit organizations and corporations. Companies, organizations, and individuals can nominate their own initiatives, or they may be nominated by someone else. In order to be nominated in one of the three categories (Corporate Sector, Non-profit Sector, and Individual), candidates must:
- Demonstrate a concern for health and safety through specific actions and initiatives.
- Exemplify creativity and initiative in taking action to improve and protect health and safety.
- Contribute (or have recently contributed) to the improvement or protection of health and safety through actions, policy initiatives, or increased public awareness.
- Bring about measurable change(s) with the potential for positive, long-term improvement in protecting health and safety in British Columbia.
Winners will be chosen by a committee of representatives from various health, business, and community organizations. Each entry is judged by the degree to which it promotes the health or safety of British Columbians, and how well the nominee’s initiative fits with the World Health Organization’s definition of the term “health promotion.” (www.who.int/topics/health_promotion/en/)
The deadline for nominations is April 5, 2013.
