BC Lions Tackle Hunger This Saturday

The Purolator Tackle Hunger Program Returns for Ninth Season in Vancouver. Purolator, Canada’s largest courier company, is proud to host the ninth annual Purolator Tackle Hunger Food Drive in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society at the BC Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Empire Field on Saturday, August 13.

Since 2003, Vancouver football fans have helped raise 177,665 pounds of food through the Purolator Tackle Hunger program.

What: Purolator Tackle Hunger Food Drive at the BC Lions game in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society Vancouver. Football fans who bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the volunteers stationed at Empire Field will have the opportunity to receive a souvenir photo with the Grey Cup and enter a draw to win two tickets to the 2011 Grey Cup in Vancouver.

When: Saturday, August 13, 2011 – BC Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Food Drive starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs until game time (7:00 p.m.)

Where:Empire Field – Food collection to take place at both north and south gates. The Grey Cup will be located at the BC Lions Street Party, just inside the north gate.

Who: Vancouver football fans, Purolator employees, food bank volunteers and BC Lions players’ family members.

All proceeds from the food drive will support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, which distributes food to 25,000 people weekly – 37 per cent of whom are children. Some of the most needed items by the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society include canned tuna and meat, soups and chilli, and dry whole wheat pasta and rice.

Other ways to donate: Fans can text TACKLE to 30333 to make a one-time donation of $5, which will be added to people’s mobile phone bill. One hundred per cent of the proceeds support Food Banks Canada.
