The BC Lions have re-signed their most electrifying player.

The Leos re-signed kick returner Chris Rainey to a two-year contract. The move locks up Rainey, who was set to become a free agent today.

“Chris brings a skillset to special teams which makes our return game very exciting and dangerous,” said Lions GM and coach Wally Buono. “Field position is critical to winning and with Chris returning kicks it gives our offence a real boost. We will also look at giving him some work at the running back position this season.”

The Lions lost last year’s running back, Andrew Harris, to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers today. This wasn’t a surprise, as Buono indicated last week that the team would not be offering him a contract.

Rainey joined the Lions midway through last season and he immediately gave BC a real threat on punt and kickoff returns. He returned a punt and a kickoff for matching 103-yard touchdowns against Calgary on September 18.
