BC Lions QB makes hilarious discovery: 'Isn't Casey Printers my cousin?'

Remember Casey Printers?

Of course you do.

One of the most talked-about BC Lions players of this century, the Texas-born quarterback was electrifying when he burst onto the scene in 2004, being named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in his rookie season. He was also part of the most famous quarterback controversy in Lions history, along with Dave Dickenson.

But here’s something you may not know about Printers. His cousin is a current member of the team.

Kaidon Salter, who was taking first-team reps at practice on Monday, will reportedly take over as the Lions’ starting quarterback Thursday in Winnipeg. After practice, he revealed his relation to Printers.

The 23-year-old rookie said he hadn’t thought about the BC connection with Printers until he heard his cousin’s name randomly brought up by one of the coaches.

“I text my pops, ‘isn’t Casey Printers my cousin?'” Salter told reporters. “Dude was a legend up here.”

The Lions signed Salter in May following, out of the University of Colorado Boulder. He was third on BC’s depth chart as recently as 10 days ago.

But after Nathan Rourke went down with a shoulder injury on July 17, backup quarterback Chase Brice struggled. The Lions have had a tough time putting up points in Rourke’s absence, giving Salter an opportunity.

It’s a chance that Printers saw coming.

“He talked to me over the weekend… telling me just be prepared,” Salter said of a recent conversation with Printers.

“He was just telling me how fast things can go. How fast things can happen. He was telling me that I’m capable of playing in this league. Just telling me I need to stay in the film room, stay communicating with my team, stay with the coaches, just build the bond with the team… and just keep working. Be the leader that the team needs and be the player that brings those big-play making abilities to the offensive side of the ball.”
