BC Lions player suspended after multiple groin punches
BC Lions defensive back Josh Hagerty was suspended by the CFL on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Regina native received a two-game ban for “striking” Montreal Alouettes running back Liam Talbot during the Lions’ 48-29 win at BC Place.
Two games represent roughly 11 per cent of a CFL season, so it’s significant. But a number of fans are up in arms about this one, saying that Hagerty got off too lightly.
That’s because Hagerty didn’t justĀ strikeĀ Talbot; he appeared to strike him in the groin — twice. And it seems to have done some damage.

Talbot is listed on the Alouettes’ injury report with a groin injury, and according to Pablo Herrera-Vergara of 3DownNation, he needed “emergency surgery” to repair the damage.
This is Hagerty’s sixth CFL season, and second with BC.
After stumbling out of the gates with a 1-5 record, the Lions have been rolling. They’ve won six of seven games since, with an opportunity to catch the Saskatchewan Roughriders for second in the West Division in their next game.
The Lions host the Roughriders Friday, Sept. 25 at BC Place.
