Consistency is the theme this year for the BC Lions schedule. The Leos, who finished with a 12-6 record last year, will play all nine regular season home games on Fridays and Saturdays this season, as the CFL released the 2017 schedule on Tuesday.
“We’re quite pleased with the schedule and we believe our fans will be as well,” said Lions VP of business George Chayka. “Many have expressed a desire for us to get more Saturday dates and we’ve been successful in doing so this year. We have also added later start times to two of our Friday night games to allow fans more time to get down to BC Place.”
The wide variety of start times should do something for everyone. Two 4 pm Saturday dates will be music to the ears of families and fans from Vancouver Island. A 7:30 and an 8 pm Friday night start time will be helpful for people commuting from the suburbs.
BC begins the season at home to the Edmonton Eskimos, before heading out on the road for three consecutive games in the East. Fans will be happy to hear that the Lions won’t play any games on Wednesdays or Thursdays this year.

“The schedule this year has a number of benefits for the club,” said GM and head coach Wally Buono. “Playing three consecutive games in the east early on will help us to come together as a team and remove significant travel in the backend of the season.”

After the three-game road trip early on, the Lions will alternate home and away games the rest of the year, aside from back-to-back home games against Hamilton and Ottawa on September 22 and October 7.
