B.C. government wants public input on distracted driving laws

The B.C. government is looking for the public’s input on the state of distracted driving laws, especially when it comes to punishments.

A special section of the B.C. government website has been set up to educate people in the province on the current laws and to collect opinions on what kind of reforms and enforcements policymakers should enact.

Last year, the provincial government upped the fine to include three points on a driver’s license in addition to a $167 ticket.

The government wants to know whether the current penalties are sufficient to deter drivers from poor and dangerous habits – if new drivers or repeat offenders should be punished more harshly.
