'Exceptional care': Two B.C. hospitals ranked among best in the world
Two of B.C.’s leading hospitals have been recognized on the global stage, ranking among the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for 2027.
The new Newsweek global ranking highlights excellence in specialized care across multiple fields.
The American news magazine and research firm Statista released the annual list, which highlights top medical centres worldwide across 13 specialties.
Categories include the top hospitals for cardiology, oncology, pediatrics, nephrology, cardiac surgery, endocrinology, neurology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, and urology.

The survey, conducted between May and June 2026, draws on recommendations from medical professionals, accreditation data, certifications, and Statista’s PROMs Implementation Survey. And two B.C. hospitals made the list.
Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) showed its strength across multiple fields. It ranked 56th in endocrinology, 125th in neurology, 143rd in gastroenterology, and 164th in cardiology.
BC Children’s Hospital stood out by landing ninth in the world for pediatrics.
“Finding exceptional care for complex health conditions is not always as simple as choosing a highly regarded hospital. Strengths often differ by specialty, making it important to identify institutions with proven expertise in specific areas of medicine,” the report stated.
