Traffic impacted on B.C. highway after fatal Monday morning crash

A fatal crash in B.C. on Monday morning is still having lingering effects on traffic.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating the fatal motor vehicle incident that took place in Maple Ridge this morning.

According to Ridge Meadows RCMP, the incident occurred on Jan. 5 at around 5:30 a.m.

RCMP responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck near the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Laity Street.

“The female pedestrian was subsequently transported to hospital by emergency health services but has since succumbed to her injuries,” Ridge Meadows RCMP said.

As of around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, RCMP said that all eastbound traffic on Lougheed Highway between Laity Street and 216th Street was closed and would be for “an indeterminate amount of time.”

DriveBC also offered an update on the incident.

RCMP officers are speaking to the driver of the vehicle, with the investigation ongoing.

Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has taken control of the investigation, along with support from the Investigative Support Team.

“The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is also on scene,” Ridge Meadows RCMP added.
