Closures and diversions of Highway 1 through Langley could impact your commute

Some upcoming roadwork could make your trip tricky if you travel on Highway 1 in Langley as part of your daily commute.
Ongoing work is part of the Fraser Valley highway-widening project, and will impact drivers starting tomorrow, between April 24 and May 10, depending on which direction you’re travelling.
“These traffic-pattern changes are necessary to allow crews to safely complete drainage-pipe replacements between the Glover Road underpass and CPKC overpass on Highway 1, and are dependent on good weather,” says the BC Ministry of Transportation.
Closures and diversions will occur between 216th Street and 232nd Street at Glover Road on weekends and overnight.
The following are Westbound Highway 1 lane diversions:
- Thursdays, April 24 and May 1
- Westbound lanes closed and diverted to one eastbound lane overnight between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
- Fridays, April 25 and May 2, and Saturdays, April 26 and May
- Westbound lanes closed and diverted to one eastbound lane overnight between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The following are Eastbound Highway 1 lane diversions:
- Thursday, May 8
- Eastbound lanes closed and diverted to one westbound lane overnight between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
- Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10
- Eastbound lanes closed and diverted to one westbound lane overnight between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 a.m.
“These diversions are in addition to ongoing overnight single-lane reductions already in place,” notes the ministry.
The speed limit will also be reduced to 80 km/h.
“Drivers are advised to use caution, obey signs and traffic-control personnel, and watch for roadside workers. Allow additional travel time and consider alternative routes,” the ministry adds.
The work taking place over the next few weeks is phase two of the project, which is funded by the province and the Government of Canada.
The ministry says that widening Highway 1 will enable it to accommodate eastbound and westbound HOV and EV lanes “in the median between the 216th Street and 264th Street Interchanges.”
