A ship in BC Ferries’ fleet broke down Tuesday afternoon, meaning several sailings between the mainland and Vancouver Island are cancelled.

The cancelled sailings are along the Tsawwassen to Duke Point (Nanaimo) route, according to a BC Ferries service notice.

The 3:15 pm sailing departing Tsawwassen, the 5:45 pm one departing Duke Point, the 8:15 pm one departing Tsawwassen, and the 10:45 pm one departing Duke Point have all been cancelled.

BC Ferries said the Queen of Alberni is having mechanical issues related to a problem with its #2 gearbox.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of these cancellations,” BC Ferries said.
