
A routine BC Ferries sailing from the Sunshine Coast to the Lower Mainland has turned into a search for a missing person after their car was found abandoned onboard the vessel.
The Sunshine Coast RCMP has issued a public notice asking for assistance in locating 51-year-old Joyelle Goldbard.
According to the RCMP, Goldbard’s orange Subaru XV was left abandoned on the 2:35 p.m. ferry on Thursday, July 2, when it docked in Horseshoe Bay from Langdale.

“No one claimed the vehicle and no one matching Goldbard’s description was seen in the area,” wrote the Sunshine Coast RCMP in a release.
“Goldbard’s wallet, personal belongings and cell phone were located inside the vehicle. Family and friends are very worried about Goldbard’s well-being.”
Police shared a photo of the missing person as well as an image of a four-door hatchback similar to the Roberts Creek resident’s Subaru.

RCMP also revealed that Golbard was previously known as Kristi Brandt until 2021, is 5’4″, weighs 150 lb, and has brown eyes and short brown hair.
Goldbard is known to wear glasses or contact lenses and has multiple tattoos, including a phoenix on the back of their neck and a full sleeve on their left arm.
Commenters on the Sunshine Coast RCMP’s social media post shared messages of hope for Goldbard’s safe return.

“I hope they are found safe! Very unsettling that their car was left abandoned on the ferry, makes you really wonder what could have happened?” said one person.
“Sending love to them, hoping they are found safe asap,” added another person.
“Oh no, I haven’t seen Joyelle for many years since they lived in Port Moody. An amazing person, and I hope they are found safe,” added a third.
