B.C. families are getting hundreds of dollars from the government this week

Apr 14 2025, 6:25 pm

Eligible B.C. families can expect to receive their provincial family benefit a little earlier than usual this month.

The benefit is sent out with the monthly Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment, which usually arrives on the 20th of each month unless it falls on a weekend or stat holiday.

Because April 20 is a Sunday and April 18 is Good Friday, parents will get their CCB and the provincial family benefit deposits three days early on Thursday, April 17.

B.C. families will also receive an additional 25 per cent bonus until the current benefit year ends in June 2025. The one-year bump in financial support was to help families pay for things like groceries or recreational sports.

The tax-free money from the provincial government is paid monthly to about 340,000 families with children in the province via direct deposit or mailed cheques.

Eligible residents with children under the age of 18 may receive a total annual amount of $2,188 for their first child, $1,375 for their second child, and $1,125 for each additional child.

You can calculate how much your family will receive on the provincial site.

The Canadian government increased the monthly Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment by 4.7 per cent in July 2024, which was the beginning of the new benefit year. The maximum benefit for children under six increased by $350, from $7,437 to $7,787. For children aged six to 17, it increased by $295, from $6,275 to $6,570.

Families can look forward to another increase in the child tax benefit payment in July 2025, but it will not be as big as last year’s raise.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says parents can expect a 2.7 per cent bump, bringing the annual base benefit for children under six from $7,787 to $7,997 ($666 monthly) and from $6,570 to $6,748 ($562 monthly) for children aged six to 17 until June 2026.

The annual child disability benefit (CDB) amount will also increase from $3,322 to $3,411 in July.
