Watch the BC Derby & BC Oaks live at Hastings Racecourse this September

On September 7, the Hastings Racecourse is hosting the 74th annual BC Derby and 56th annual BC Oaks — but there’s a twist. BC Horse Racing Hall of Fame owner Peter Redekop has increased the winner’s purse to $250,000, making it the richest stakes race on the Hastings 2019 calendar.

Together with the $100,000 BC Oaks, $50,000 SW Randall Plate, and $50,000 Delta Colleen, there’s a total purse amount of $450,000 up for grabs. This means more excitement, more action, and a whole lot of celebrating for whoever claims the top prizes.

But just because the purse is big, doesn’t mean your bets have to be. You can wager as little as $2 on any race, making it easy for newbies to have fun and learn about horse racing.

And the best part? Admission to the event is completely free. There will also be food trucks, live music, and outdoor beer tents during the day. It’s time to don your best outfit and celebrate the few remaining sunny days we have left in Vancouver!
