BC health officials to give COVID-19 update on Friday afternoon

Health officials in British Columbia are scheduled to give a written COVID-19 update on Friday afternoon.

The announcement follows 673 new test-positive cases that were confirmed on Thursday.

There are 10,009 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 10,388 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Currently, 358 individuals are hospitalized with the virus, 93 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining are recovering at home in self-isolation.

There were also 21 new COVID-related deaths announced yesterday, bringing the total number in BC to 713.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that so far, there have been 1,215 people who work in care homes or with COVID-19 patients who have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
