BC health officials report 617 new cases of COVID-19

BC health officials said on Friday that 617 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the province, bringing the provincially recorded total to 56,632.

In a written briefing, BC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that by specific health region, this equates to 139 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 320 in the Fraser Health region, 27 in the Island Health region, 81 in the Interior Health region, 49 in the Northern Health region, and one new case in people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 6,118 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 358 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 75 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Currently, 8,755 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases, and there have been 18 new COVID-19-related deaths, for a total of 988 deaths in British Columbia.

A total of 48,205 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have now recovered, and 46,259 have received a COVID-19 vaccine in BC to date.
