COVID-19 cases at Big White caused by "social activity" in homes, accommodations

Dec 14 2020, 10:04 pm

Health officials are investigating after COVID-19 cases were detected at the resort municipality of Big White.

Interior Health says that the cases are “related to transmission caused by social activity in homes and accommodations.”

And while an outbreak has not been declared at this time, a testing team has been sent to the municipality to increase testing.

“Given the remote circumstances of people who reside at Big White, we have deployed a testing team to expedite some testing,” Interior Health tells Daily Hive in an email.

And because of “the shared nature of some accommodations in the community, some asymptomatic testing is occurring as an attempt to identify possible cases early.”

Health authorities say that activities at Big White are “safe” for those who follow COVID-19’s public health guidance.

Daily Hive has reached out to Big White Ski Resort for further comment.
