BC reported a spike in new coronavirus cases this weekend, announcing 102 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday.

There were 51 new cases discovered between Friday and Saturday, 19 more cases discovered between Saturday and Sunday, and 32 new cases discovered between Sunday and Monday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said at a news conference.

Henry said many of those new cases were linked to Canada Day parties in the Kelowna area, and those people subsequently took the illness back to their home communities.

No one else has died from coronavirus in BC since Friday, leaving BC’s death toll at 189.

The province has now seen 3,300 total coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.
