A teacher from Chilliwack faced some consequences for sexually inappropriate behaviour in a secondary school classroom.

According to a decision from the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, several allegations were made against Robert Acheson, a teacher at a secondary school in Chilliwack’s School District No. 33.

The decision states that Acheson was an inclusion teacher “with a caseload of students identified as vulnerable.”

During the 2022/2023 school year, there were notable instances of inappropriate behaviour. The decision states that on several occasions, Acheson made comments to students, including one referred to in the decision as Student A, about the physical appearance of another staff member at the school.

The Chilliwack teacher also made comments to students, including Student A, about their physical appearance, according to the decision, though it did not specifically mention what Acheson said to the students.

The decision goes on to state that he shared an inappropriate story with students, including Student A, about a traumatic incident that occurred during his high school or middle school years. That story included content of a sexual nature.

Acheson shared another personal story with students, again including Student A, about a high school girlfriend, which also included details and inappropriate content of a sexual nature, noted the decision.

The inclusion teacher faced several consequences. On June 16, 2023, he received a letter of discipline, which informed him of a 15-day suspension without pay and directed him to take a professional boundaries course. He was no longer permitted to take assignments involving vulnerable students. He completed the boundary course between Aug. 9 and 11 of 2023.

On August 15, 2023, the commissioner ordered another investigation. Following that investigation, Acheson agreed to a one-day suspension of his certification on June 13, 2025.

Acheson was notified that the decision would be published and agreed not to make any oral or written statements contradicting the terms of his agreement with the commissioner.
