Canada's top 40 workplaces have been revealed and some are in B.C.
If you’re looking for a job, HDR Canada released its annual list of the best places to work in Canada, and some B.C. workplaces were included.
HRD Canada is a platform that provides features and analysis on the issues and challenges for HR professionals. It created this list of 40 companies based on employees’ perspectives, through an anonymous survey.
Of the 40, HDR said that each workplace had an overall satisfaction level of at least 75 per cent across 21 categories, including compensation, benefits, flexibility, professional development, and culture.
There was one quality it said that all best workplaces had: listening and responding.
“They listen to employees, act on what they hear, and close the loop,” wrote HDR. “Employees want more flexibility, more transparency, more evidence that feedback goes somewhere beyond a spreadsheet.”
Seven B.C. workplaces made the list, including one in the top three.
Harris & Co
Harris & Company LLP is a law firm headquartered in Vancouver, ranking as the second best place to work in Canada. It was founded in 1992 and has just over 120 employees.
Altis Recruitment & Technology
Altis, a recruitment company, has offices across the country, including one right here in Vancouver on Pender Street.
Amur Financial Group
Amur Financial Group, based in Surrey, is a lending and investment company with the mission to be “Canada’s largest alternative mortgage lender.”
It is one of the 10 companies that HRD featured and provided more in-depth analysis on, revealing that employee satisfaction was almost 79 per cent. This is the third year in a row that it has been on the list. The company’s people and culture director, Kam Sumal, attributed this to the company’s “strong sense of community.”
Ryan Company
Based in Victoria, Ryan Company provides automated vending, self-service micro markets, fresh pantry, and office coffee. They operate across British Columbia with over 400 clients.
The City of Abbotsford
The staff maintaining and running the City of Abbotsford must like their jobs, as this was one of the few municipalities on the list.
The City was another employer featured by HRD, with an 84 per cent overall satisfaction rating. Abbotsford’s city manager, Peter Sparanese, told HRD that employees enjoy the “ability to positively impact the quality of life and services that the residents of Abbotsford deserve.”
The Mutual Fire Insurance Company of British Columbia
This company provides mutual insurance for farm, commercial, and home needs. It was founded in 1902 and is based in Langley Township.
Westland Insurance Group
Westland Insurance Group started as a family-owned brokerage in Ladner in 1980. Now, it has nearly 4,000 employees and over 250 locations across the province.
