While October brings fall colors, pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween, it also means it’s B.C. Beer Month and the premier event is the B.C. Beer Awards.

The 4th Annual B.C. Beer Awards & Festival returns to Vancouver on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Drive). The marquee consumer tasting event of B.C. Craft Beer Month, this festival celebrates the very best in craft brewing from all across this great province. A one-day only event, it features both the craft beer festival and the B.C. Beer Awards ceremony.

Last year there were over 400 unique entries from over 35 B.C. breweries and brewpubs, with winners selected in 12 distinct categories. Steamworks Pilsner took home the Best of Show prize, while other notable breweries like Lighthouse, Central City and Philips also took home prestigious awards. Expect even more competition this year with all the newly opened breweries looking to prove themselves.

As an added bonus this year the BCBA is adding its first master class, the Hops Connect Hops Class, which is open to both consumers and trade. For only $10 per person, CAMRA Vancouver‘s Education Liaison Danny Seeton will guide 50 guests on a tour of hops and their influence on craft beer. The one-hour session, from 11 a.m. to noon, will include samples, demonstrations and a Q&A with industry experts.

And if you can’t make it down to this event, be sure to follow B.C. Beer Month on Facebook for events happening almost daily throughout October.
