Kayaker found dead after capsizing at Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby

A kayaker was found dead Thursday afternoon an hour after capsizing in the water at Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby.

RCMP, Coast Guard, BC Emergency Health Services, Burnaby Fire Department, Coquitlam RCMP and the Vancouver Police Marine Unit responded to a report of an adult male who went into the water and had not resurfaced, around 2:15 pm.

His body was discovered at 3:20 pm.

Foul play is not suspected, and Burnaby RCMP says the incident appears to be a “tragic accident.”

Authorities are expected to remain on scene throughout the evening.
