A barge with a load of hundreds of crushed scrap cars tipped over in a Victoria waterway on Friday afternoon.
According to CTV News, the incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. and sent 20 cars into the Gorge waterway, near an industrial location where cars are broken down for recycled metal.
Another report by CBC News indicates between 50 to 100 cars could be sitting at the bottom of the waterway.
Tweets by municipal police indicate all workers have been accounted for and there are no injuries. However, it has still sparked a WorkSafe BC investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
As a precaution, the area around the barge has been taped off given the possibility that more cars could fall off. Fuel containment booms have also been deployed in the water for any possible spillage.

We’re closing the #Selkirk wooden walkway alongside the area of the barge collapse to avoid the risk to the public. #yyjbarge #yyj — Victoria Police (@vicpdcanada) August 28, 2015
Reminder: areas that remain taped up are closed for your safety. You don’t want to end up squished like one of those cars. #yyjbarge — Victoria Police (@vicpdcanada) August 29, 2015
