A Surrey man has been charged with several serious offences after he allegedly shot another man in a coffee shop just days before Christmas.

Police say 34-year-old Son Thai Lu fired at a man inside the shop in the 13500 block of 105th Avenue at 8:50 pm on December 23 and fled.

Officers arrived at the scene after receiving a report of shots being fired, and worked with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC) to investigate.

Lu was known to the victim and to police, and was arrested on Wednesday, December 27.  The victim is still recovering, having received serious injuries.

Lu has now been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and pointing a firearm.

“The shooting appears to have been motivated by a disagreement between the two men,” Corporal Scotty Schumann said in a news release.

“There is no known link to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict and we’re thankful no one else was injured.”

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file # 2017-182646.
