Arrest made in rash of bizarre vending machine break-ins

Everyone can breathe easier knowing their Fritos and Coca-Colas are safe once again, thanks to the work of the Burnaby RCMP.

A man was arrested after an investigation – yes, an investigation – was launched by Burnaby’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team in late June after two vending machine thefts were reported at the Bill Copeland Arena. There were three more thefts that occurred as far back in May and even more in the cities of New Westminster and Richmond.

Goodness.

The suspect was identified thanks to some help from the New Westminster Police department and the Victoria Police Department – he has quite a lengthy record on Vancouver Island, says the Burnaby RCMP.

The 42-year-old Surrey man is facing 10 charges, including six in Burnaby.

To be fair, vending machine businesses do lose significant revenue when the costs of thefts are added up – sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars, even.
