Arc’teryx to replace longtime Roots store at Burrard and Robson streets corner in downtown Vancouver

After a quarter century, the Roots flagship store at the northwest corner of the intersection of Burrard Street and Robson Street in downtown Vancouver has now permanently closed.

As previously reported by Daily Hive Urbanized, going into the holiday season, there were plans to shutter the longtime Roots store at 1001 Robson Street in January 2025, and relocate to a nearby space within the former Peloton showroom at 919 Robson Street at the northwest corner of the intersection of Hornby Street and Robson Street.

Roots is planning to open its 4,000 sq ft new replacement flagship store within the former Peloton showroom space in Summer 2025. It will be merged with the adjacent interim Roots store at 929 Robson Street, which opened in September 2024 — previously occupied by the Tesla showroom.

“In the interim period, we decided to open the smaller store sooner because we knew we could do that, and we’ll have the smaller store open until we open the broader, bigger store,” Meghan Roach, the president and CEO of Roots, told Daily Hive Urbanized in an interview last fall.

And now, a new replacement tenant has been selected for the former Roots space at the prominent location of the northwest corner of Burrard and Robson streets.

A spokesperson for Arc’teryx told Daily Hive Urbanized they will be relocating the downtown Vancouver flagship store to the former Roots space at 1001 Robson Street.

This new Arcteryx store will be an “exciting new brand retail experience for our Vancouver guests,” and it will also open in Summer 2025.

Arc’teryx’s downtown Vancouver flagship store is currently located just to the south at 813 Burrard Street  — near the southwest corner of the intersection of Burrard and Robson streets. The Vancouver-based outdoor apparel company first opened its existing 3,200 sq ft location in 2017, replacing a longtime Le Chateau store.

With a floor area of 6,430 sq ft, the new Arc’teryx flagship store will be twice the size of the retailer’s existing location in the area.

Built in 1911, the existing single-storey retail building that was previously home to the Roots flagship store is amongst the oldest commercial buildings along the Robson strip. Other existing businesses in this property include La Vie en Rose, Sunglass Hut, and Rocky Mountain Chocolate.

Roots and Arc’teryx’s big commercial real estate moves are part of the ongoing reshaping of this segment of the Robson strip. In November 2024, Adidas opened a new 35,000 sq ft flagship store at 969 Robson Street, replacing the former Victoria’s Secret flagship space.

As well, later in 2025, JD Sports will open a new flagship store at 1034 Robson Street, replacing the former Club Monaco space.
