Apr 1 2025, 11:12 pm

April 1 has come again, and the world is feeling silly. So make sure you read everything with an extra dose of skepticism.

As is tradition, a bunch of Vancouver companies became tricksters, with some sus social media posts of groundbreaking new offerings, total renovations, and more. While some are bizarre, there are a few that we’d want to see brought to life.

From the good, the bad, and the strange, here are some of the wildest April Fools’ pranks from Vancouver companies in 2025. Make sure to take these “breaking news” items with a grain of salt:

Vancouver Convention Centre’s six-acre green roof set for public park transformation

Daily Hive got in on the April Fools action by imagining what it would be like if Vancouver Convention Centre’s landmark living green roof underwent a transformation into an elevated urban public park.

“Visitors to the new park are expected to stay on the pathways, except in a few small designated areas where walking on the grass is permitted. For safety, perimeter fencing will be installed along the entire edge of the roof, with additional railings provided along pathways that have steeper grades or are adjacent to drop-offs.”

Hopefully Pavco, the provincial Crown corporation that operates the convention centre, sees this article and helps make it a reality.

Science World Pyramid

Vancouver’s science centre announced today that it was planning on transforming its iconic dome into a pyramid.

“We’re excited to unveil a state-of-the-art infrastructure update,” said Science World. “The dome will now become the pyramid! Construction on this project is underway to enhance the acoustics within the building.”

While Science World did come out hours after its initial announcement to share it was an April Fools’ prank, it did add that critical upgrades are being made to the building. But the dome would remain in place.

The Korean-style hot dog chain has several locations in Metro Vancouver, and for April Fools’, it offered a Cold Dog on its menu.

“Spring is here or so we thought. To match the chilly vibes, we’re launching the Cold Dog,” said Chung Chun. “Only available today or maybe never.

White Spot launches a new airline

White Spot

White Spot

No need to fly on an empty stomach when White Spot Air and Airhop are available.

The B.C.-based company announced it would expand its food service to the friendly skies. And it does sound like an appetizing deal.

“We’ll be specializing in domestic flights within Canada, paired with a Legendary meal delivered right to your seat on our iconic new Airhop tray,” said White Spot on social media. “Stay tuned to our social channels to see when you can start booking your flights!”

Destination Vancouver’s Harbour Hoppers to get around the seawall

Destination Vancouver

Locals and visitors alike love exploring Vancouver’s Seawall, and Destination Vancouver played an April Fools’ joke on folks by announcing new human-powered inflatable pods called Harbour Hoppers.

“Vancouver’s transit game is about to get a serious upgrade,” the organization said. “Harbour Hoppers are launching Spring 2026 ahead of the World Cup, giving you a fun and efficient way to get around Downtown.”

While not actually a real transportation method, we can’t help but think of how fun and chaotic it would be to travel on the seawall with the Harbour Hopper.

Doggy Sodas from Nude

Who says humans get to have all of the fun? Vancouver-based Nude Beverages was thinking of our four-legged best friends with their announcement of Doggy Soda for April Fools’.

“After eight years of Nude Vodka Sodas, we thought it was finally time to make something special for our furry friends too,” Nude said online. ”

Say hello to our limited edition Apple Carrot Doggy Soda – a refreshing blend of juicy apples and sweet carrots made special for our #pawsofnude crew.”

And yes, the imaginary Doggy Soda would contain zero sugar, like all of Nude’s products.

Steam Clock goes digital

Gastown BIA

Gastown BIA

Tourists from all over the world can breathe a sigh of relief after hearing that the announcement from Gastown Business Improvement Society was only a joke today.

“It’s officially been announced that Gastown’s iconic Steam Clock is changing its tune (and face!),” said the Gastown BIA. “The Steam Clock will be getting a modern makeover with a digital display and accompanying alarm clock beeps every 15 minutes.”

We’re positive that local residents and those who work in the neighbourhood are happy this was just an April Fools’, too.

Drinkable California roll, anyone?

Paragon Tea Room

Paragon Tea Room

Paragon Tea Room is a locally founded business that specializes in stone-milled Japanese teas and uses teaspresso machines, and they also have a limited menu of high-quality bubble tea drinks. Their offerings are plant-based, usually using oat milk, and are available in a few flavours to keep quality high.

That’s why we’re a little disappointed to find out that their newest flavour announced today — Genmaicha California Roll — was just a jest.

“This spring we’re elevating our favourite ricey, toasty green tea inspired by everyone’s favourite sushi roll. Imitation crab chunks, Kewpie mayo cold foam, furikake dusting, and avo garnish.”

On the plus side, you can visit them in their new Pacific Centre location starting on April 3 to try out their other flavours.
