Apple Pay is coming to Canada

Dec 20 2017, 2:12 am

Apple announced that its much talked-about Apple Pay system is coming to Canada, but with restrictions – it will be limited only to American Express customers for the initial launch.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced in a conference call it will launch here and in Australia later this year. It will expand to Spain, Singapore and Hong Kong in 2016.

Cook gave Apple Pay’s Canadian launch only a brief mention in the company’s fourth quarter earnings announcement.

Apple Pay is an app that allows you to pay for items using a tap function on the phone with finger print verification. Apple announced the launch of Apple Pay in 2014 and said that your credit or debit card numbers will never be sent to retailers – a one-time number is sent instead.

Apple Pay is a near field communication feature, which is becoming the standard for contactless payments.
