UPDATE: The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a magnitude 2.6 earthquake was detected around Mission and Abbotsford this morning.

EARLIER:

A small earthquake shook the homes of a number of Abbotsford residents.

Some on Twitter living in Mission also say they felt the quake.

Downtown Abbotsford resident Serena Kind says it happened just before 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

“And all of a sudden at about 4:40… all of a sudden, I feel this rumbling. And I was asleep at that point, I wake up and I’m like, ‘what is this?’ And then all of a sudden, you could feel the whole house shaking, and my dogs are looking at me like, ‘what’s going on?’”

Kind says she was startled.

“We live by train tracks, and we were like, ‘oh, maybe it’s just the train. Maybe.’ But I’m like, ‘no, it doesn’t usually feel like this, and they’re usually not active at like almost five in the morning.’ They usually do most of their work at one. I’m like, ‘it can’t be.’”

Earthquakes Canada has not confirmed the quake or its magnitude.

This is the second earthquake in that area in just two days. On Thursday, a 1.9 magnitude earthquake was also detected in Abbotsford.
