The Green Party of Vancouver has named Annette Reilly its sole candidate to vie for one of the two vacant Vancouver City Council seats in the April 2025 by-election.
According to a news release today, Reilly has been a longtime volunteer for the Green Party and serves on the board of the Gender Equity in Film Society. The party describes her as an advocate for social justice, gender equity, and environmental sustainability.
Reilly is best known for her career in film and television production, particularly in her previous recurring acting role in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series in 2018 and 2019, when she appeared in seven episodes. According to IMDB, she has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria.

As well, as a cancer survivor, it is noted that she is “determined to address the environmental causes of cancer and advocate for evidence-based policies that protect public health.”
“As a working mother and renter, I understand firsthand the challenges that so many Vancouverites face every day,” said Reilly in a statement.
“From housing affordability to small business support, and safety to climate action, our city needs bold leadership that listens to communities and delivers real solutions. I am honoured to represent the Green Party of Vancouver in this by-election and fight for a future that puts people, environment, and transparency first.”
Furthermore, she adds, “Vancouver has lost confidence in this mayor and council.”
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, Vancouver voters will head to the polls to fill two Vancouver city councillor seats vacated by Christine Boyle of the OneCity Vancouver party and Adriane Carr of the Green party.
Boyle resigned on December 12, 2024, after she was elected as the MLA for Vancouver-Little Mountain under the BC NDP last fall. On January 15, 2025, Carr also announced her resignation, citing frustrations with working alongside Sim and the ABC-led majority in City Council and a desire to spend more time with her family.
Currently, Green Party city councillor Pete Fry is the only member of the opposition in the City Council.
The Green and OneCity parties are each contesting one candidate to avoid splitting the vote among their supporters.
With today’s announcement, the various civic political parties have confirmed a total of five candidates.
This includes bike lane activist Lucy Maloney for OneCity, former Vancouver city councillor and mayoral candidate Colleen Hardwick and Theodore Abbott for the TEAM For A Livable Vancouver party, and Sean Orr for COPE.
The mayor’s ABC Vancouver party has yet to make any announcements at this time, but they are expected to field two candidates.
