Over one billion people watched Sunday’s FIFA World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina, and many likely tuned in long enough to see the cameras focus on a 21-year-old Maple Ridge woman embracing her superstar boyfriend after his team’s win.

Montana Yorke was on the field hugging and kissing 23-year-old forward player André Schürrle, who was responsible for the assist that led to Mario Gotze’s extra-time goal that secured the World Cup trophy for Germany.

“I have no words to describe how proud I am of my man and the entire German team. Hard work pays off,” Yorke wrote in the caption of an intimate Instagram photo of her and Schurrle.

Images and video of Yorke have been widely circulated in the international media’s coverage of the wives and girlfriends (WAGS) of World Cup players. She has a massive social media following, including nearly 62,000 followers on Instagram and more than 9,000 followers on Twitter.

Beyond his role with the German national team, Schürrle is a star professional player in the Premier League’s Chelsea F.C. in Fulham, London.

His girlfriend Yorke worked for Holiday Inn and attended Freie Universitat Berlin before moving in with him in London. Prior to her relationship with Schürrle, she dated Canadian rugby player Jebb Sinclair who plays for the London Irish.
