Vancouver’s newest upscale eatery, Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio, brings upscale waterfront dining to the shores of False Creek.

Acquired by Viaggio, the hospitality group that owns Cibo, Uva and the recently opened Beach Bay Café and Patio, Ancora serves West Coast sustainable cuisine with distinct Peruvian and Japanese flavours and hopes to be a destination for fine dining foodies.

Occupying the former C Restaurant space at 1600 Howe Street, the restaurant has been completely renovated. The spruced up 98-seat dining room is sleek and modern in design and has been decorated with sophisticated yet approachable furnishings. In addition to a private dining area, the restaurant is also home to a spacious heated patio with panoramic views of False Creek.

The kitchen is helmed by Executive Chef Ricardo Valverde (previously at Blue Water Café), whose Peruvian origins lend Ancora’s menu an authentic South American flair.

Diners who frequent Ancora can expect a mix of West Coast meets Peruvian-inspired dishes, such as Tiradito scallop and prawn ceviche with aji amarillo crema and cancha or the impressive Ancora Glacier – a combination of oysters, Peruvian mussel escabeche, Dungeness crab causa, a ceviche and tartare tasting and selection of sashimi.

Yes, that’s right: a selection of sashimi. Ancora will also feature a raw bar, headed by Master Sushi Chef Yoshi Tabo, where playful Japanese-inspired creations are served fresh.

“We’re thrilled to embark on this new culinary venture,” says Andrea Vescovi, Ancora’s general manager and wine director, in a release. “The all-star team has created a unique menu sure to make Ancora a great addition to Vancouver’s culinary scene.”

Ancora is certainly not afraid to intertwine culinary cultures, and offers an array of unique and tantalizing dishes, which showcase the very best of Peruvian and Japanese cooking while paying homage to the city’s West Coast roots.

At the bar, led by Head Bartender Matt Cooke, patrons will discover a carefully curated wine and spirits menu, in addition to a enticing cocktail list that boasts a mix of both classic and specialty concoctions.

Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio is open daily for cocktail hour, 3 p.m to 5 p.m., followed by dinner, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
