The Buffalo Sabres may call the United States home, but they’ve just earned a bunch more fans north of the border.
Because they have a fan base on both sides of the border, the Sabres do something unique before all their games at KeyBank Center. While it is customary for NHL teams to not sing the Canadian national anthem before games unless a Canadian team is playing, Buffalo anthem singers perform both the Star Spangled Banner and O Canada before every game.
That was the case on Tuesday, when the Sabres hosted the Boston Bruins in Game 5 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series.
Just one problem: the mic cut out.
Sabres fans saved the day though, taking over from anthem singer Cami Clune.
“Well that was interesting,” Clune said on social media. “Thank you all for singing along with me. We have the best fans ever!”
The mic kept cutting out on the anthem singer (@camiclune), so the Buffalo crowd helped sing the Canadian National anthem. Cool moment 🎤🎤#LetsGoBuffalo #NHLBruins pic.twitter.com/UEdIpcxhyl

It was a heartwarming moment, particularly given the strained relations between the two countries for the past 15 months. It wasn’t long ago that Canadian hockey fans were booing the American national anthem, while some U.S. crowds returned the favour.
