Mysterious U.S. apology posters appear around Vancouver amid tariff drama

Mysterious posters have suddenly appeared around Vancouver with a message for Canadians from their “American friends,” but not everyone is ready to hear it.

Vancouverites have shared photos of the eye-catching apology posters around the city, including in Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano, and Commercial Drive.

“Dear Canadians, we are so very, very, very sorry,” the bright blue graphic reads.

The posters were spotted by several locals and shared on social media at a tense time during the ongoing Canada-U.S. tariff war.

A discussion about the American apology posters broke out online, with Vancouverites split on the sincerity of the message.

“I thought the poster was funny when I saw it but as a lot of the commenters said, I don’t find it sincere,” said Reddit user JToews19 to Daily Hive. “This whole situation feels like a very happy marriage that went south quickly.

“While there is some short-term pain on our end, I think there’s a lot for us as a country to gain, and we’ll come out of it stronger. The only other time I’ve ever seen the country so united is during the hockey in the Olympics or the 4 Nations Faceoff.”

Another Vancouverite said that seeing the poster around the city made them feel very happy that someone took the time to send a message of positivity.

“I saw a few posters around Chinatown and Gastown,” said rmanning007. “I think it’s important to remember that incompetent and/or unjust governments do not represent its people.”

Tensions are high between the two countries as the trade war continues, with many Canadians caught in the crossfire.

Some Canadians visiting the U.S. must complete an “alien registration form” and be fingerprinted for the government beginning Friday. And if you have plans to travel to the U.S. from Canada, experts are advising you to leave your electronics at home if you can.

A Vancouver-based board game business also spoke out about the “confusion and chaos” that the ongoing tariffs are causing his industry, and how the U.S. enacting tariffs on imported foreign goods can greatly impact companies north of the border.

“I am not sure what to think about the poster,” aaadmiral told Daily Hive. “Who actually paid for it? Is it a group of individuals or some corporation trying to encourage American travel, products or services, etc?

“Who is even putting these posters up? They look different than the regular show posters, for example. But I do think they’re kind of funny.”

Other commenters online said that the posters were no laughing matter.

“I’m skeptical a U.S. citizen apologized for something. Call me jaded,” said one person.

“How the hell do they have time to put up posters in Vancouver but not fight the battle at home,” added another. “Wtf is going on here?”

“I appreciate the sentiment, but I don’t want apologies,” said a third commenter. “Take action instead of looking for pity.”
