Airbnb acquires HotelTonight to expand accommodation offerings

Airbnb is continuing to take over the travel world, and the company’s latest move is the acquisition of HotelTonight.

While Airbnb is used for connecting travellers with locally provided accommodation, experiences, and restaurants, HotelTonight is — you guessed it — used for booking hotels for the same night. Last minute deals FTW.

The companies will continue to operate independently. Announced on March 7, 2019, the acquisition is said to be close to HotelTonight’s last private valuation of around $463 million.

“We started HotelTonight because we knew people wanted a better way to book an amazing hotel room on-demand, and we are excited to join forces with Airbnb to bring this service to guests around the world,” says Sam Shank, Co-founder & CEO of HotelTonight. “Together, HotelTonight and Airbnb can give guests more choices and the world’s best boutique and independent hotels a genuine partner to connect them with those guests.”

Airbnb’s mission is to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere, by building an end-to-end travel platform that combines where you stay, what you do, and how you get there, all in one place.
